South Pointe Not Moving Forward in Homer Glen as Other Residential Development Activity Continues
Homer Glen, (November 30, 2018)
Homer Glen Mayor George Yukich announced today that M/I Homes will no longer move forward with the South Pointe development that was proposed for the 138 acre property on 159th Street commonly known as the Dunn property. "It was a business decision based on current economics and timing of this property," according to Matt Pagoria who handles land acquisition for M/I Homes. "M/I Homes is still excited about being in Homer Glen," added Mr. Pagoria. Furthermore, he stated, "M/I Homes is looking forward to starting construction of the townhomes approved for The Square at Goodings Grove near Bell Road."
The Homer Glen Village Board approved The Square at Goodings Grove in October as a mixed use project to include 76 townhomes with over 3 acres of commercial frontage. Final engineering review is wrapping up and ground breaking for the townhomes will begin next spring.
"The Trustees and I are very pleased that M/I Homes is still in the game with Homer Glen and will build new product as part of The Square project to help diversify our housing choices," said Mayor Yukich. "Homer Glen is open for business, including new residential development," added the Mayor, "Homer Glen's future is bright with our strategic location, new infrastructure coming online now and IDOT 159th Street improvements wrapping up next year."
The Village’s 159th Street water main extension to Gougar Road is completed. The Fiddyment sanitary sewer main extension to the western border near I-355 is well underway and will be completed early next year. The IDOT project is over 70% completed. A number of new residential proposals are in the concept stage by other builders. "While this property did not work out for us," Matt Pagoria commented, "M/I Homes will consider other opportunities in Homer Glen going forward."
