On Wednesday, August 12, the maintenance contractor for the 319 area will be doing a selective herbicide treatment. Within about a week there will be sections of the prairie that show signs of being sprayed. This will not harm any of the grasses and is targeted at the non-desirable species. They will also be treating the cattails with an herbicide that is intended for use around water and in wetlands. This is applied with a technique called wicking where they use something similar to a wand with a sponge on the end to wipe herbicide on the species that we are targeting.
