October 1, 2024. Village staff conducted a workshop on the BP Clearing during the Environmental Committee meeting held on October 1, providing residents with an opportunity to ask questions and engage on this important issue. For inquiries that could not be addressed during the workshop, staff are actively researching the necessary information, which will be shared with the community as it becomes available. At the workshop a presentation regarding Right of Way Utility Easements and BP Pipeline Questions was shared. To view the presentation, click the link below.
Right of Way Utility Easements and BP Pipeline Questions
September 1, 2024. Within the coming weeks, tree clearing will be taking place within the Village right of way and BP Pipeline easements in northwestern Homer Glen. BP Pipeline has contacted property owners along their easement to negotiate the tree removals and will be working with property owners to preserve trees that are not directly impacting the pipeline. Clearing will take place in the Village right of way located between S Elm Street and Chicory Trail from 143rd Street up to 139th Street. Clearing will also take place east of Longview Drive from 139th Street to the Village’s northern border. Crews were on site 8/26 – 8/30 walking the easement and marking trees for removal. Mobilization and tree removal is expected to begin in early September.
Clearing trees from pipeline rights of way is crucial for maintaining the safety and efficiency of BP assets for transportation of products. Without regular clearing, tree roots can damage pipelines, leading to costly repairs or hazardous leaks. Additionally, overgrown vegetation can obstruct access for maintenance and emergency response teams, impeding their ability to quickly address potential issues. By ensuring a clear right of way, we not only safeguard the integrity of the pipeline infrastructure but also minimize environmental risks and enhance overall operational reliability.
If you are a resident who’s property abuts the BP Pipeline or Village right of way shown in the map below that has not been contacted by BP Pipeline, or if you have any other questions regarding the clearing please reach out to Engineering at the Village of Homer Glen.
