The Village has contracted with Clarke Environmental Mosquito Management, Inc. for our mosquito abatement program. Clarke has been treating standing waters with larvacide, throughout the Village, since May. This means that any flood plain area, roadside ditch or cattail marsh within the Village has been and will be treated with a slow release product that is effective for 30 days.
On Monday, June 13, (weather depending), Clarke’s trucks will be out in the late evening, spraying Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) adulticide throughout the Village. The ULV is used to spray insecticide concentrates into microscopic particles that penetrate residential areas and contact kill adult mosquitoes 300 feet downwind. Since spraying is only useful for short-term control and even less so for backyard areas, the Village suggests that residents may opt to purchase a can of yard spray at a hardware store for a weekend’s worth of benefit, such as for a barbecue.
Residents may call Clarke Environmental Mosquito Management’s Mosquito Hotline at 800-942-2555 to report stagnant water or request notification of when trucks will be spraying in their neighborhoods.
