[ARCHIVED] Gas Leak at 143rd & Parker Road - Updates

Nicor Gas Update

NicorGas crews worked throughout Friday night to locate and stop the source of the natural gas leak.  Since then, crews have conducted routine safety tests on the gas pipelines, restored gas service to impacted customers, and replaced a segment of their gas pipeline system.  Nicor Gas construction operations remain ongoing, and the area is safe.  To read the complete Nicor Gas Update click here.

Smell Gas? Act Fast!

Natural gas is a colorless, odorless fuel, but for safety reasons, a chemical odorant sometimes described as a “rotten egg” smell is added, making the presence of gas detectable.

If you smell this odor:

  • Alert others and leave the area immediately.
  • Leave the door open as you exit.
  • Avoid touching anything that may cause a spark. This includes starting a car engine or using cell phones, lighters, matches, cigarettes, flashlights, light switches or landlines.
  • Go to a phone away from the area and call us at 888.Nicor4U (642.6748).

Natural gas odors should be reported right away. Do not try to locate the source of the smell.

If you smell natural gas, call us at 888.Nicor4U (642.6748).
