To the disappointment of Mayor Yukich, Village Trustees, and many residents who are Illinois American Water customers, Governor Rauner has signed House Bill 4508. The new amendment to the Public Utilities Act allows water utility companies to impose rate hikes on current customers to fund municipal acquisitions.
HB 4508 had passed the Senate, but failed to get a veto-proof majority in the House.
On June 25, Mayor Yukich together with the Citizens Utility Board’s director of governmental affairs Bryan McDaniel, State Senator Sue Rezin, State Senator John Curran, Mayor Roger Claar from the Village of Bolingbrook held a press conference at the Homer Glen Village Hall to urge Governor Bruce Rauner to veto the Bill.
Though the House Bill 4508 was not defeated, the Village Board would like to thank all of the residents who called and wrote Governor Rauner to try and stop this legislation.
