SafeWise has released its fifth annual Safest Cities report, and the Village of Homer Glen has ranked number four on the list for Illinois. Using information that cities across the country report through the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting program, each year SafeWise identifies the safest places to live across the country. For the 2019 report, SafeWise reviewed 2017 FBI crim report statistics and population data. Rankings are based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) in each city. If there was a tie, they factored in the number of property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft). To compare cities with vastly different populations, the rate of crimes per 1,000 people in each city were calculated. More information about the SafeWise findings and list of cities can be found in the Illinois's 50 Safest Cities of 2019 report on the SafeWise website.
