Over the last few weeks, the Village of Homer Glen has installed traffic calming signage at several locations throughout the community. The purpose of these signs is to make drivers aware of their speeds in residential areas, which have generated concerns due to vehicular speeding.
The Village’s Traffic Calming Program cites education and signage as two nonaggressive measures to be implemented in an effort to reduce vehicular speeds where necessary. The three-foot by three-foot, bright yellow signs are designed to attract attention and alert drivers to monitor their speed.
Sign location placements were based on complaints and speed data compiled from roadways with speeding issues. Continued data collection is occurring to measure the effectiveness of this signage program.
