The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), in conjunction with Metra, announced that 159th St. (U.S. 6) will be fully closed to traffic at the SouthWest Service Line tracks between 104th and 108th Ave, in Orland Park, beginning Wednesday, Aug. 19th.
A detour will be posted. Westbound traffic will use 104th Ave., 167th St., and 108th Ave. to reconnect with 159th St. Eastbound traffic will follow the reverse route.
The closure, scheduled to be removed by the morning of Aug. 29th, is necessary for railroad crossing improvements to accommodate the upcoming reconstruction and widening of the 159th St. from west of Ravinia Ave. to just east of Gougar Rd. There will be no impact to the scheduled train service.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
