On Wednesday, September 23rd, ground was broken for the south extension of the Village's Heroes Trail system. The extension will begin near the existing trail at Founders Crossing and Bell Road and continue through the Com-Ed right-of-way. The south extension of the Heroes Trail will eventually link to the planned multi-purpose trail that is part of IDOT’s 159th Street widening and reconstruction project.
The Village of Homer Glen is committed to providing recreational opportunities for its residents, such as The Heroes Trail. The Village strives to fund these projects by securing grant money. The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) recently approved a request from The Village for an additional $28,000 in federal grant money allocations for the multi-purpose Heroes Trail Expansion Project. This approval brings the total amount of federal grant support for this project to approximately $498,000.
The trail extension is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Click on the link below to access a map and other general information regarding the Heroes Trail.
